Brantwood was the former home of John Ruskin from 1871-1900. The house and 250-acre estate open to visitors over 300 days a year. Brantwood receives in excess of 20,000 visitors annually to the house and estate and the many events hosted through the year. Such events include talks, courses and outdoor theatre. Brantwood also generates income through a house and apartment offered as holiday lets, hosts 12-20 weddings annually, and offers food and refreshments for day visitors and special events from the Terrace coffee house.
Brantwood generates much of the income it needs to deliver it’s goals and care for the property and grounds from the many activities it offers and from visitor income. A board of Trustees manages an endowment fund which is there to provide for any shortfalls or any major capital projects which require extra funding. Some grant funding is sought, although this is fairly minimal compared with many other arts establishments.
